Now that summer is in full swing, it’s time to explore everything our great state has to offer. There’s so much more to mountain towns than skiing, and here are some recommendations for towns to visit for the perfect summer getaway.

Palisade
Just under 4 hours from Denver is the quaint town of Palisade known for its peach orchards. Along with the peaches, Palisade is home to more than 25 wineries perfect for any wine lover. The best way to see the wineries and orchards is via bike on the Fruit & Wine Byway, which will also give you incredible scenic views of the Colorado River and the Grand Valley. Palisade provides ideal R&R when you need to disconnect, but there’s enough hiking, biking, and rafting to fulfill your adventure fix too!

Salida
For a more adrenaline-filled getaway, Salida is a great option for hiking, biking, climbing, and camping with easy access to several 14ers. The Collegiate Peaks are the most well known and can be found by taking Highway 24, AKA “The Fourteener Highway”, or go ziplining at Captain Zipline. After a long day of adventuring, hit the town for one of the art galleries, live music, or grab a cocktail at the local, Wood’s High Mountain Distillery.

Durango
Take the trek down to southwest Colorado to see all that Durango has to offer. The trip is about 6 hours from Denver, but the drive is all worth it for the outstanding sights and monuments in the same vicinity. Mesa Verde National Park and Chimney Rock National Monument are one-of-kind sites with rich histories and views that pictures just won’t do them justice – you’ll have to see for yourself!

You’re bound to have a successful summer trip with any one of these itineraries. Where do you plan to “getaway” this summer?
